Precious greetings to all who pray for and stand
with us!
This from Hudson Taylor: “Do not store
up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do
not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also
(Matthew 6v19-21).
When Pompeii was being excavated, there was
found a body that had been embalmed by the ashes of Vesuvius.
It was that of a woman. Her feet were turned toward the city
gate, but her face was turned backward toward something that
lay just beyond her outstretched hands. The prize for which
those frozen fingers were reaching was a bag of pearls. Maybe
she herself had dropped them as she was fleeing for her life.
Maybe she had found them where they had been dropped by another.
But, be that as it may, though death was hard at her heels,
and life was beckoning to her beyond the city gates, she could
not shake off their spell. She had turned to pick them up,
with death as her reward.
As believers, it’s important to ask
ourselves, Where is my treasure? Is it here on earth or is
it in heaven? So often, it’s easy for us to focus on
the things on earth we think are most important. But God’s
Word reminds us that what we so often care most about are
things that will be gone tomorrow!
Today, I want to challenge you to be on guard
against placing value on the things that won’t last.
Instead, pray that the Lord would help you place value on
things that will last…like your relationship with Christ
and your service for Him.
Pray as the psalmist did: “Turn my
eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according
to your word” (Psalm 119v37).
The branch of the vine does not worry, and
toil, and rush here to seek for sunshine, and there to find
rain. No; it rests in union and communion with the vine; and
at the right time, and in the right way, is the right fruit
found on it. Let us so abide in the Lord Jesus.”
This searching word has been a wonderful
encouragement to Isa and me during the first six months of
2010, as we have spent these months preaching and teaching
around many and varied local churches here in Northern Ireland
almost every Sunday and many week-nights as well. We were
totally amazed at the interest in and the knowledge of the
work of Treasured Truth Today Ministries so many have. We
find our selves continually repeating the Psalmist’s
words “Turn my eyes away from worthless things”
(Psalm 119v37). Surely dear friends, there is nothing quite
like serving the Lord, so many of you having stood with us
and supported us have greatly encouraged us to focus on those
things which are eternal. A man once asked Dr. Joseph Parker,
a minister of a great Church in London and a contemporary
of C. H. Spurgeon, "Why did Jesus choose Judas Iscariot
to be His disciple? “I do not know,” replied Dr.
Parker, “but I have a harder question, why did Jesus
choose me?”
We find it equally difficult to answer that
question, but choose us He did for, which we are so thankful,
privileged, humbled and deeply grateful to have part in our
dear Saviour’s precious work for eternity. Thank you
for partnering with us, may our dear Lord reward you richly!
Just to let you know of our on-going work
by way of help to our friends in Eastern Europe, recently
we have been able to supply the finance for a computer which
has been specially programmed by a friend of Pastor John Birnie
of Slavic Gospel Association, with Russian soft-ware and key
pad. This machine is now on its way to Moldova and will be
a great blessing to this dear Pastor whom we had the privilege
of meeting as he preached in Ballykeel Baptist Church. He
labours so faithfully for the Lord in that amazing land of
Moldova.
We continue our help to those endeavouring
to prepare themselves for a full time ministry in whatever
part of Eastern Europe they come from, which we believe is
a great encouragement to them and gives them a good start
as they set out on a life time of service for the Master!
This from the dear brother who was my interpreter
the last occasion I was teaching in Biai Mare, Romania: “I
am writing this note to you to inform you about a sad incident.
Two of our nephews (23 and 25 years old) were injured in a
car wreck accident about two weeks ago. There were five in
the car, all suffered different injuries, but these two, one
being the youngest and driving, are very slowly recuperating
from this accident”. Even if parents are praising God
for sparing the lives of children, they are almost desperate
because of the high bills they'll have to pay to the hospital
(in such cases, the children's insurance as students do not
cover hospitalization). Please pray!
This from my dear friend Dr. Cornel Iova
Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church St. Andrew, Romania: A young
man from my church, Daniel (32) got very sick last week while
he was on a trip in Germany with his job. They took him to
the hospital in Dortmund and after about one week of investigations
the doctors told him that he has a clot caused with an aneurysm
on his brain and he needs surgery. The doctors told him that
the surgery should be done urgently, otherwise he can be paralyzed.
It is going to be very expensive, especially in Germany and
Daniel and his family are poor. Please Pray!
Until Jesus Comes
