Personal News Letter No. 27 January 2017
Blessings upon and greetings to all of our faithful friends!
I wonder would you dear friends who read our half yearly Newsletter permit us to ask some questions on this occasion as we contact you once again to update you on what we have been and are endeavoring to do since last we wrote. Do you have a cause worth living for? When you get to where you are headed, where will you be? I heard a preacher say recently, "many dear people today are shoveling smoke and plowing water!" The thought struck me so very forcibly, when my life's work is ended and my work on earth is done, what difference will I have made?
Years ago Reader's Digest recorded in an article that in order for a person to have a meaningful life, they needed three things. First, they need someone to love. Second, they need something to do. Third, they need something to hope for. I do believe Reader's Digest was correct, and personally I believe the answer to all three of these things is Jesus. He is the one we should love above and beyond all others, He is the one we should serve above and beyond all others, He is the one in whom we should hope above and beyond all others. Jesus Christ is the only one worthy of my love, my life, my all. Like a hammer blow the thought struck me, well, what difference are you making Ken Humphries?
I have been doing some studies on the life of Abraham recently, remember God Discovered him in Ur of the Chaldees worshiping the sun god, and by the power of His Word God Detached him from that place, telling him to get out and not look back. From that moment onwards God began leading Abraham on a journey daily Developing him in order that he might Demonstrate him one day to the world at large forever more saying, look at that, that's what can happen to a man or woman who gives themselves completely to me. You see dear people this world is not looking for a new definition of Christianity but in fact they are looking for a new demonstration of Christianity! My prayer from that moment has been Lord make me a demonstration of a life lived completely for you.
For that reason dear friends, some years ago my dear wife Isa and I sold our business and devoted our lives to serving the Lord; now please don't misunderstand me, probably the mark we have made over the past forty years is a very small one indeed however, make it was a must, when God called and directed our paths there was nothing else we could do but follow the Lord and glad we are we did so. That pathway has led us to where we are today.
Firstly we had the privilege of serving as Pastor and wife of three of our Baptist Churches in Northern Ireland, a period of time which has left an indelible mark of blessing on our lives never to be forgotten. On retirement from our third church at the end of 2003 we sensed a deepening desire to establish officially what we have called 'Treasured Truth Today Ministries' whose first aim and object was to proclaim the Premillennial Coming of Jesus Christ, which has been our passion ever since. Since the inception of our ministry, a second desire laid hold upon us, namely to help and support young people in Romania through Seminary to prepare for whatever ministry they believed God had called them to. At this time in our ministry our desire has increased some, to the helping young pastors and their wives, families and churches wherever they are based and serving the Lord in Romania. This happens by supplying them and their churches with boxes of clothes, shoes, medical supplies when available, shoe boxes at Christmas for children and finance as it becomes available to us. However, what we love most is visiting our friends in Romania and preaching and teaching the wonderful Word of God as indeed they love hearing the Word taught and preached.
This past year we have had the privilege of sending to our friends in pastoral ministry in Romania hundreds of New Christian Books given to us as a precious gift by a dear friend and his wife who own a large book store in Northern Ireland; to our dear brother and his wife we say a heartfelt thank you, what an amazing blessing you have been to our brothers and sisters serving the Lord in that part of the world, our prayer for you is that our dear Lord and Master may reward you greatly for your great thoughtfulness.
Please allow us to say to all of our dear friends who have been a part of our ministry since its inception and those who have come on board as active prayer warriors and supporters throughout the years now passed into eternity, sincere and deepest thanks for your consistency, what an encouragement you have been to Isa and I over these years and to our dear friends in Romania, may the hand of the Lord be good upon you. Likewise, to all of our lovely friends from other parts of the world who stand with us in so many ways, especially our American brothers and sisters, to you we are so deeply grateful, you have allowed us to lean hard upon you and to receive from you the kindness of your large hearts and active prayer and practical support. Thank you!
D. L. Moody said, "I look upon this earth as a wrecked vessel. God has given me a life boat and said to me, ' Moody, save all you can'." To those of you who sail with us in this life boat of Treasured Truth Today Ministries and are engaged in the soul saving business, God richly bless you, we could not do what we are doing without you!
The Apostle Paul touches our hearts with these powerful words:
Romans 12v1 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
This from Oswald Chambers: "Service is the overflow of super-abounding devotion."
Dear C.H. Spurgeon said, "If the service of God is worth anything, it is worth everything. We shall find our best reward in the Lord's work if we do it with determined diligence."
I love this heartfelt prayer of F. B. Meyer: "O God, may we so trust Thee this day, that, when the day is done, our trust shall be firmer than ever. Then, when our last day comes, and our work is done, may we trust Thee in death and forever, in the spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."--John 6:29
John's Sixth Chapter opens abruptly at a scene many miles distant from Jerusalem. Jesus had responded at length to his angry persecutors in that city. He had come upon a man at the edge of the pool called Bethesda. The unnamed man had been seriously ill for 38 years, he obviously wanted to be cured--he came, as did others, to bathe in the pool after "the water is stirred up."-- John 5:5-9 Jesus asked him, "Do you wish to get well?" The man did not say yes, but he implied that he was too helpless to enter the water in time for a miracle to be performed. This vaguely positive response from a helpless man moved our Master to reply at once: "Arise, take up your bed, and walk." And the man did! This miracle got both of them in trouble. First, the Jews accused the man who had been healed: "It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your bed." When they later began to charge Jesus, He replied: "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working."--John 5:10,17. Help me to work Lord for " the night cometh when no man can work." John 9:4. Thank you so very much for working with us, we love you all so much in the Lord.
Until Jesus Comes
Ken & Isa Humphries.
